Global Social Media Lead - temporary assignment (100%), min. 6 months

Purpose of the role

Lead the development and deployment of a comprehensive strategy for our client's global social media presence and channels, ensuring effective and efficient management of content and concepts in alignment of the Group Leadership Team (GLT) and the business. Partner with the Communications Leadership team and Senior leaders to build a strong online presence, image and brand.


  • Develop, define and deploy the client's social media vision and strategy to ensure an effective and integrated view in building and managing social media presence that impacts the brand
  • Ensure translation of the Social Media strategy into a clearly articulated, actionable plan with key deliverables that impact business and company branding and image
  • Lead social media planning through supporting group wide senior leaders in global, regional and local campaigns
  • Develop and drive process to manage a world-class social media practice including planning, publishing, community engagement, moderation and reporting
  • Provide information to the internal key stakeholders and leaders regarding on-going and emerging trends, new platforms and new technologies to help the client be at the fore front of social marketing and social media
  • Provide understanding and insights to key stakeholders into the complexity and dynamism of the social media landscape in the various regions and countries
  • Manage and work with the right partner agency to ensure timely implementation of the channel strategy
  • Work with the Communications leadership team in positioning the client as a thought leader and influencer in social media channels through custom-fit content and campaigns
  • Proactively identify thought leadership opportunities with external partners and stakeholders to enhance our position as a key driver of topics relevant to the industry
  • Ensure creation of digitally driven stories, campaigns, new content and creative ideas to reach new target audiences in the industry
  • Act as internal subject matter expert to senior leadership teams on all social media and online presence
  • Overseeing and management of complex projects across the social media team, helping prioritize work and generate solid business results
  • Effectively establish a governance structure across all Business Units, countries and organizations that is self-sufficient and provides clear guidance, e.g. when/how to create and maintain a channel, regular audits, KPI's, etc.
  • Creation of holistic social media campaigns to align with greater brand marketing campaigns
  • Development of follower building strategies to increase social footprint across all social touch points throughout multiple regions
  • Development of efficient structure and process based on a deep understanding of a multinational, decentral company: interplay between Business Units, regions and countries, and external agencies specialized on different communication aspects

Your skills & experiences

  • Bachelor/ Master's degree; professional qualification in Social Science, Politics, Political Science, Mass Communications or any related field.
  • More than 6 years of work experience in a comparable field and more than 3 years experience in a position and with exposure within a similar function
  • Proven track record in managing and driving social and online media strategies and creating social impact programs.
  • Professional experience and vast understanding of various media channels
  • Resilience, flexibility and a willingness to explore different paths and options
  • Understanding and knowledge of markets, media, regions and cultural differences / preferences to effectively manage communications
  • Highly attentive to external drivers and trending conversations to react and enter the discourse
  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills coupled with international work experience
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and pressing timelines. Ability to navigate ambiguity and comfortable in leading through changes
  • Strong command of the English language; other European language is an added advantage
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel
  • Clarity of thoughts and ability to communicate internally and outside the organization
  • Ability to think strategically and derive decisions in a complex environment
  • Able to prioritize, balance and differentiate between urgent issues and long-term strategic campaigns, stories and content
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across the organization
