For an international company in the global agribusiness market in Münchwilen (AG) we are looking for a:

Automation and Industrial IT Engineer - temporary assignment (100%), min. 6 months

Purpose of the role

  • Responsible for the "industrial IT and Automation" area
  • Deliver concept for hard- and software maintenance and drives replacement of outdated technology
  • Establish and maintain know-how, ensure technical choices, technology watch, compliance and expertise.
  • Develop internal technical standards in compliance with global standards and requirements
  • Build and maintain relationship with external experts and suppliers, select preferred suppliers for standard solutions.
  • Contribute to the definition/review of frame agreement
  • Guarantee safe, compliant, reliable installations and operations


  • Act as responsible person on industrial IT for all production, laboratory and logistics facilities:
+ Hardware Architecture: ensure the choice of systems, servers, networks, in accordance with Syngenta strategy and best practices
+ Software Architecture: for all systems, OS, DCS, MES, Cybersecurity, ZLT, LIMS, domain management applications
  • Act as responsible person on the automation architecture:
+ From sensors and actuators, to ERP.
+ In particular, PLCs (Siemens), digital control systems (Emerson), field networks, computer networks, input / output interfaces, instrumentation, SIS, communications between different systems and different system layers.
  • Maintenance:
+ Ensure the Hardware and Software maintenance of the systems, in collaboration with the various suppliers, in particular for DCS, MES, Cybersecurity, ZLT, LIMS
+ Responsible for developing the maintenance strategy, in line with the needs of the site
+ Troubleshoot problems from analysis to solution; drive the continuous improvement of the maintenance
+ Develop the sustenance plan for the site to initiate the required investments at the right time
+ Prepare and support the implementation of refurbishment projects
  • Projects:
+ Act as Project lead, owner and receiver

Your skills & experiences

  • Degree in relevant technical field, preferably in the electrical / automation field or chemical process engineering
  • At least 5 to 10 years of experience in an equivalent role.
  • German to collaborate onsite and French to collaborate with colleagues from the French part of Switzerland, English proficiency
  • Very good knowledge of automation for the continuous and batch process industries, and specifically automation systems architectures.
  • Basic knowledge of chemical processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of industrial IT installations in an industrial environment
  • Good knowledge of SQL databases, VBA, OS, network, .net, hardware
  • Experience in maintenance and commissioning of automation installation
  • Cybersecurity experience
  • High HSE sensitivity
  • Sound knowledge in relevant technical fields; in particular electrical, instrumentation and automation technologies
  • Very good knowledge of computer tools for programming automation systems.
  • Knowledge of relevant Swiss and European laws, and their applications in process industries (example: ATEX, SIL).
  • Experience on root cause analysis methodology
  • knowledge of fieldbus systems and industrial networks, e.g. Profibus, HART or Foundation Fieldbus
