Occupational Health & Safety Manager

Role purpose

  • To support the HSEQ manager for operational safety compliance with all Swiss Legislative & Internal regulations.
  • To support the staff in their understanding of hazardous control measures associated with site operational activities and to provide practical services and advice to enable them to minimize the likelihood of safety hazard
  • To implement the initiatives that are necessary to develop the safety strategy of the site
  • To lead and manage the operational Safety & health team and ensure operational safety compliance with all Swiss Legislative & internal standards.
  • Implement the initiatives that are necessary to develop operational safety & health strategy
  • Provide leadership, direction and expertise to allow the management of safety & health aspects.

Accountabilities
  • Manage the operational health & safety team
  • To lead by example in the proactive search for improvement opportunities and then effectively putting them into practice

This role is split in 2 areas:
  • HSE projects (35%)
  • Site operational and HSEQ department activities ( 65%)


Qualifications

Knowledge, experience & capabilities :
  • Swiss regulatory environment and its application in the process industries : SUVA safety engineer or adviser strongly recommended
  • Risk assessment and incident investigation in the Process Industries.
  • Understanding of manufacturing operations.
  • Engineer (HSEQ, Chemist, technic, ...)
  • Knowledge of the methods of analysis of risks (root cause analysis, work place risk assessment, HAZOP...)
  • Knowledge of the various types of hazards ( HSE)

Critical experience and capabilities :
  • Industrial Site Production experience
  • Interpretation of current & forthcoming safety legislation (Swiss and CE)
  • Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities
  • Work place risk assessment
  • HSE management systems (e.g. safe systems of work, Management of change, incidents investigations...)

Critical success factors & key challenges:
  • Demonstrated improvement of Health and Safety performance (audit, matrices, risk management, lag & lead measures)
  • Enhance of relevant site staff safety and health competences
  • Build trust & credibility with the site community
  • Understand legal requirements and HSEQ management systems
